Handyman services in St. Louis
These are the handyman services St. Louis homeowners ask us for most. Most calls to a St. Louis handyman are a list of home repairs, not one job, and a local handyman who takes the whole list saves you calling three trades.
- Drywall repair: holes, cracks, nail pops and the water-stained patch left after a roof leak.
- Trim: baseboard, door and window casing, and loose or rotted exterior trim.
- Caulking: tubs, sinks, windows, doors and exterior joints where water gets in.
- Minor plumbing: fixture-level fixes such as a dripping faucet or a running toilet.
- Fixture installs: towel bars, shelving, mirrors, blinds and the other things that need mounting right.
- Punch-list work: the small items left at the end of a remodel or a home sale.
- Storm damage touch-ups: the small repairs left after the big ones.
We clear the list in one visit where we can, and as a local St. Louis roofing and exterior company, we price it in writing first.

What a handyman can and can't do in St. Louis
Missouri has no statewide handyman license, so the line is drawn by permits. In St. Louis County, plumbing permits are issued to master plumbers and drainlayers licensed by the County, and electrical permits to County-licensed electrical contractors. Cities that run their own permit offices, such as University City, ask plumbers for that County license too.
- Handyman work: repairs and replacements at the fixture, with no new pipe, drain or wiring run.
- Licensed-trade work: new water or drain lines, water heaters, gas lines and new electrical circuits. Those need a licensed plumber or electrician and usually a permit.
If something on your list crosses that line, we'll say so before we start, so you can call the right trade for that one item.
How much does a handyman cost in St. Louis?
Published guides put St. Louis handyman rates at roughly $50 to $80 an hour on average, plus materials (HomeGuide), and TaskRabbit puts its St. Louis handyman average around $57 an hour. Those are other companies' numbers, not ours. What moves the price on any list:
- How many trips it takes. One visit for the whole list costs less than five visits for five jobs.
- Drying and repeat coats. Drywall mud and paint need time between coats, so a patch can take two visits.
- Materials, and whether you've already bought the fixture.
- Access: high ceilings, ladders and second-story exterior work take longer.
We price your list in writing before we start.

Storm damage touch-ups
After a storm, the big repairs come first: the roof, then any siding or gutters that came down. What's left is handyman work, such as the ceiling patch after the leak is fixed, a torn screen, a loose piece of trim or a cracked caulk line. If the roof itself is leaking, start with roof repairs in St. Louis; whole walls of storm-damaged siding go to siding replacement, and bent or pulled-off runs to seamless gutter installation. We can take the handyman list once those are done.
Other work we do
- Composite deck replacement: replacing worn wood decking with composite.
- Garage door installs: a new garage door, hung and working.
- Solar panel inspection and testing: the panels, the inverters and the mounting hardware.
- Solar critter guards: wire mesh around the edge of rooftop panels.
- Gutters: gutter cleaning and gutter guards, one trip.
- Holiday lights: Christmas light installation every fall, plus permanent lighting.

What is a solar panel critter guard?
A critter guard is a wire mesh fitted around the edge of rooftop solar panels to close the gap between the panels and the roof. Without it, birds and squirrels nest in that sheltered gap, where nesting debris holds water against the roof and animals can chew the panel wiring. The mesh clips to the panels, so it adds no holes in the roof.

Handyman FAQs
Can a handyman do plumbing in Missouri?
Minor plumbing at the fixture, yes: a faucet, a toilet, a supply line to a fixture. New lines, drains, water heaters and gas work need a licensed plumber; in St. Louis County, plumbing permits go only to County-licensed master plumbers and drainlayers.
Is it cheaper to hire a handyman or a contractor?
For a list of small jobs, a handyman is usually cheaper, because one person handles every item in one trip. For one large job, like a new roof or a wall of siding, hire the contractor who does that job every day.
